This is a portrait of a woman, with cuttings of different coloured paper assembled to make her hair. Newspaper markings are drawn with ink on the coloured paper, and oranges as well as the background are rendered in watercolour. Woollen yarn is used for the ripping net to highlight variety in materiality asides from media. The painting celebrates women of colour with beauty and brains.

Process Work

In this conceptual sketch, the afro of newspapers symbolises the lady's intellects as her crowning glory and her overall colourful, interesting personality which radiates beauty from within. The wordings of the newspapers symbolise her eloquence in her speech which reflects her poise, confidence and overall elegance; hence the "juicy" aspects.
